Super Bowl Snax
I'm feeling pretty meh about the Big Game this year. Seeing as how I dislike both the Patriots and the Giants, I'm conflicted about who to root for. On the one hand, rooting for any of Archie Manning's progeny goes against everything I stand for [which will be very hard if certain rumors become a reality], and on the other, I despise Bill Belichick and hate to see him succeed. The best thing about this game is that one of them is going to lose. It was hard deciding who I hate more until last night, when Belichick cut Tiquan Underwood. As in, the day before the Super Bowl. That is evil on a Dick Cheney level. Also, not to go off on a tangent, but we need to institute a moratorium on use of the word "genius" in regards to Belichick. Since when is "genius" synonymous with "adept at one's chosen profession"? Belichick is a genius the same way the guy who gave me correct change at the grocery store today is a genius.
Moving on. Since I'm not particularly invested in the game this year [which is not to say that I won't follow it closely and proceed to analyze and discuss it for days on end], i'm focusing on whipping up some treats for the Super Bowl party i'm attending.
Here's what I'll be making:
Millionaire's Shortbread, courtesy of Claire Robinson
Ina Garten's Caramelized Onion Dip
Parmesan Asiago Dip
Very excited to make these today, they all look delicious and take minimal effort. You can't go wrong with lots of cheese.

In Honor of the Super Bowl
It's Super Bowl Sunday as well as Black History Month, and what better time to appreciate legendary Redskins quarterback Doug Williams? Williams led the Redskins to their win in Super Bowl XXII against John Elway's Denver Broncos in 1987, becoming the first and only black quarterback to win a Super Bowl. He played in that game with his jaw wired shut after getting a six-hour root canal surgery done the day before. Is that intense or what?
Williams represents the golden age of Redskins football, aka the Joe Gibbs era, back when people could discuss the Redskins' playoff chances with a straight face. Ah, the good old days. Too bad I wasn't alive to experience them.

Happy Rush Day!
Today is 2.1.12, aka RUSH appreciation day. Let's take a second to appreciate the superb lyrics of Geddy Lee, the incredible guitar skills of Alex Lifeson, and the inimitable talent of drum king Neil Peart. Go forth and get your prog rock on.
